Police To Build 6,000 Houses Nationwide

The Police on Friday said it will build 6,000 houses for inspectors and other lower rank officers in its efforts to improve staff welfare. The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of logistics and supply, Mamman Tsafe, announced this in Gusau during a visit to the Police in Zamfara State.

Tsafe noted that the initiative was from the present Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase.
He said it was unfortunate that a police officer would spend 35 years in service without owning a house. Tsafe stated that Arase was ever ready to mobilise the police technical and financial resources to produce houses at very cheap and affordable prices for the officers. “We will soon come back for the ground breaking of more than 6,000 houses to be given to inspectors and other rank and file. “We already know how many Inspectors and other officers are in each state. The ground-breaking of the projects will be done in each geopolitical zone by DIGs, while the commissioners of police will do it in their respective states,” Tsafe said. He assured that salaries and other benefits due to personnel would henceforth be regular so as to guard against corruption destroying the image of the police. Tsafe said all these measures were to boost the morale of the officers, warning that anybody found involved in any form of corrupt practice would be severely dealt with.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Olufemi David, while welcoming the DIG, said the command had been doing its best to provide security for residents.
