Former Brazil International, Fernandao Dies In Helicopter Crash Aged 36 [Report]

Former Brazil international Fernandao has died in a helicopter crash aged 36. The 36-year-old was a club legend at Brazilian side Internacional where he lifted the Copa Libertadores in 2006.

He scored 42 goals for the club and went on to win the World Club Cup. The striker also spent three years in France at Marseille and was capped once for the national side in 2005.

Sao Paulo Enters Third Day Of Subway Strike Amid World Cup Worries [Report]

The Telegraph reports that Subway workers in Sao Paulo were on Saturday to stage the third day of a strike that has brought chaos to the Brazilian city due to host the World Cup opener, as Fifa's vice-president urged authorities to make sure fans could get to the match.

As police fired tear gas and beat back striking workers with batons on Friday, Jim Boyce told the Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper that the protests could cause difficulties for those trying to attend Thursday's opening match.

University Of Lagos Officials Announce Reversal Of Student Fees Amid Continued Protests

The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has immediately pronounced a reversal of the hiked fees for course registration, and other charges, described as “obnoxious” by the protesting students.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic & Research, Prof. Babajide Alo, who addressed the students as they occupied the senate building, also directed that the imposition of various charges on students to register separately for General Studies (GST) courses, be immediately reversed.

According to Sahara Reporters, A contingent of Nigerian soldiers this morning stormed the newspapers distribution center Garki Area 1 in Abuja confiscated and destroyed most of Nigeria's leading national dailies meant for distribution. The armed soldiers who stormed the center at about 7.00am arrived with ten Hilux patrol vans painted in Nigerian Army colors asked  all vendors and distributors to lie face down and descended on them. One of the vendors who tried to take a picture with his phone was arrested, brutally assaulted and had his phone seized and destroyed by the rampaging soldiers.

According to reports from Sahara Reporters, Former Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and ex minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili, has died according to a family source.

Dr. Akunyili died in an India Hospital where she has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment. She was aged 59.

13-year-old Malavath Poorna, a daughter of poor Indian farmers became the youngest girl to climb the famous Mount Everest on Sunday 25^th May 2014.

At a press conference held yesterday Wednesday 4th June 2014, she revealed that she “shed joyful tears” at the summit after a gruelling climb.

According to Associated Press, Nepal requires climbers to be at least 16 years old to scale its peak, but she and a team of Nepalese climbing guides made it to the top on May 25th from the northern side in Tibet. China has no age restrictions.
