2 Killed & 3 Injured, As Gunmen Invades Hotel In Rivers State

The Leadership reports that at least two persons were killed, while three others were wounded when unknown gunmen stormed a hotel in Abonema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State. It was gathered that the gunmen, who wore mask, numbering over 10, came through the river through the sandfill stormed Bedone hotel and bar at about 2am, yesterday and reportedly shot and killed two persons and wounded about three others.

It could not be ascertained what led to the shooting, even as no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Reacting to the incident, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Akuku Toru Local Government Area, Mr. Otiasah Livingstone condemned the killings. Livingston who visited the scene of the incidence on Monday morning, described the attack as barbaric, inhuman and a breach of security, which for sometime now in the area has been calm.

He said, “We condemn this act. It is inhuman. It is not something any living human being should contemplate on. It is God that creates life and I think it should be only God that should take life. For any human being to take arms and begin to shoot and kill people is barbaric”, he said.

Giving his account of the incident, the Manager of the hotel, Mr.Alaye Nicholas said, "we were doing our normal activities and the next thing we heard was gunshot. We thought it was knockout (fire cracker) because people were shouting ‘knockout’. People started running, People inside also started running. So, when we now went outside, we saw somebody lying flat on the ground,” he said.
