Caught On TV: "SELMA" - Martin Luther King’s Biopic [Prod. By Oprah & Brad Pitt]

Ever since I heard that a powerful film was being made about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, I've been eagerly anticipating its release. I was even more eager when I heard a Nigerian actor, David Oyelowo was playing the role of Dr. King. Now, I’m glad I and other movie lovers will finally get a chance to see it soon as it has been released in our local cinemas.
Selma: is a 2014 American historical drama film directed by Ava DuVernay, written by Paul Webb and Ava DuVernay, and produced by Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt. It is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, and Martin Luther King Jr. of SCLC and John Lewis of SNCC, which ultimately led to President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Now, the story of the civil rights marches that changed America is being told in this powerful new film. The film stars David Oyelowo as King, Tom Wilkinson as President Lyndon Johnson, Common as Bevel, and Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King.

Selma premiered at the American Film Institute Festival on November 11, 2014, began a limited U.S. release on December 25, and expanded into wide theatrical release on January 9, 2015.

Selma had four Golden Globe Award nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, and Best Actor, and won for Best Original Song. It was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards. Watch the trailer below:
