"I Was Treated Like An Employee Instead Of Her Man" - Safaree Samuels Reveals

Barbie queen, Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuels’ breakup has been the talk of the Web for months now. Between the emotionally revealing Pinkprint album and rumours of the new romance with Meek Mill, Barbie’s former fiancee has kept relatively silent until now. Sitting down with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club this morning (Jan. 13), Samuels finally spoke on his split with Nicki. Peep some highlights from Safaree’s interview below:

On why he left Nicki Minaj:
“I just got to the point where the respect wasn’t there [...] Everyone around her works for her, you know? So it got the point where it was like, I’m your man. I’m who you go to sleep with every night. I’m who you wake up with every morning. And it got to the point where I was being treated like an employee, instead of like her man.”

On how he feels about Nicki Minaj’s recent comments on their breakup:
"I would never do anything publicly to try to pull her down. Whatever happens between me and her one on one is what it is, that’s personal. I would never put that out there. I could be out here telling a million stories and doing cornball shit, but I’m not gonna do that and I never plan on doing that. I just think it’s crazy for her to come out now and try to pull me down and try to say I’m corny. I don’t care who you with, who you with don’t mean nothing to me. I want you to move on, because I’m moving on. I walked away from the situation."

On Drake’s lap dance, “Only,” and Nicki kissing Nas:
“That’s something that people on the outside take more as disrespect more than I did. I don’t know. maybe I’ve been dealing with that for so long that it kind of seemed like the norm to me. I got numb to it.”

On Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill dating rumours:
“If that’s who she decides to move on with, then it is what it is. I’m not mad, I’m not bitter, because if I wanted to make it work, I could’ve made it work.”

On leaving Nicki Minaj, despite her fortune:
“Fame and money, you can’t put a price on peace of mind.”

On aiding Nicki in writing her rhymes:
“She can take a picture with whoever she wants. She can get married tomorrow and be pregnant the next day, and I would wish her nothing but the best. But when you try to pull me down, and discredit what I’ve done for you, that’s what weak to me. Don’t say I don’t have no talent, because every time it came to writing raps and doing music, it was me, her and the beat. She don’t do it by herself.”

On rumors that he wanted to commit suicide:
“I definitely, definitely have been in places where I don’t wanna be here anymore.”

On whether he is in a new relationship:
“I’m not trying to rush into a new relationship right now because I need to learn and know myself right now. I lost myself so I’m trying to build myself back up. I’m getting used to being around people again.”
