Over 500 Boko Haram Insurgents Killed As Military Repels Attack In Maiduguri

According to a report on The Leadership, at least 500 persons mostly Boko Haram terrorists were confirmed dead at the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital when the insurgents attempted to attack Maiduguri, one week after they were repelled by soldiers of the Nigerian army, security sources and witnesses have said. Yesterday more than 1000 Boko Haram gunmen among whom were Chadian mercenaries staged what many military officers described the most daring attempt to take the largest capital city in northeast Nigeria.

The insurgents who arrived the gates of Maiduguri at about 5am in the morning planned to take the state capital from the four flanks of the city in what would have ended as the bloodiest attack ever carried out by the Boko Haram.

Last week, fleeing IDPs from Monguno narrated how the insurgents who attacked their communities and forced many of them to relocate to the capital city had informed them that they had a plan to render Maiduguri into a major grave yard once they were done forcing in to the city.
Security sources said the insurgents who were armed with all shades of munitions including field artilleries and rocket propelled launchers and grenades made it to the gates of Maiduguri but were met with a stiff resistance from the soldiers of the Nigerian army as well as operatives of the Civillian-JTF.
