Some thought he will be out of the country with his new bride today for honeymoon after their wedding, but Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole took his bride this morning to participate and officiate in the annual IAAF certified 10km Okpekpe race. Kenyan athletes came first and third in the male category while they made a clean sweep in the female category.
The first prize winners in both the male and female categories went home with $25,000 each, while the second prize winners got $15,000 each. The third prize winners in both categories got $10,000 each.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oshiomhole said his administration’s investment in opening up rural communities through massive construction of modern roads in the rural areas has continued to yield positive results.
He expressed joy that the 10km race is now an Internationally-recognized and accredited Athletic event and has not only opened up the community but has placed it on the world map thereby exposing it to speedy development.
