Nelson Mandela International Day: 12 Best Quotes To Remember Madiba With On His Birthday

Today marks what should have been the 96th birthday of a true African leader, Nelson Mandela. It’s Nelson Mandela International Day, a day of service celebrated on July 18, Mandela’s birthday. The day was unanimously approved in 2009 by the U.N. General Assembly. It was created to honour Mandela and
inspire others to carry on his efforts to “take responsibility for making the world a better place, one small step at a time,” according to a statement from the Nelson Mandela Foundation Initiative.
Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, died at the age of 95 on Dec. 5, 2013.
This is the first time the day has been celebrated since his death. While Google is celebrating Nelson Mandela’s legacy with a with a doodle to commemorate his 96th birthday, here at eGistonline we are taking a minute to remember some of the best quotes from Nelson Mandela who was also a born orator:

  • Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.
  • Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
  • For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.
  • Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.
  • Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.
  • I like friends who have independent minds because they tend to make you see problems from all angles.
