Federal Government Declares Friday, 2nd January, A Public Holiday
The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, January 2, 2015 as public holiday to mark Eid el Maloud. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, on behalf of the government. In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Makaji Abdulahi, Moro urged Muslim faithful and all Nigerians to pray for the peace and unity of the country.
Official Names Of Candidates For 2015 Presidential Election Released By INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the names of the 11 presidential candidates and their running mates who will contest the 2015 general elections. This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Kayode Idowu, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman in Abuja. The statement noted that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) submitted the names of President Goodluck Jonathan and his Vice, Namadi Sambo.

Galyon Brothers Surpass World Record For Longest Living Conjoined Twins In 63rd Birthday
The Galyon twins, of Ohio, unofficially reached the milestone the day after they turned 63 on Oct. 28. They beat out the previous record held for more than seven decades by Giacomo and Giovanni Battista Tocci, who were born in Italy in 1877 and lived to be 63. Ronnie and Donnie Galyon is now the world's oldest conjoined twins. They celebrated their 63rd birthday recently with a trip to Florida's amusement parks.
Emergency Evacuation As AirAsia Plane Carrying 153 People Overshoots Runway In Philippines
An AirAsia airliner has overshot the runway at an airport in the Philippines forcing passengers to make an urgent exit on emergency slides, it has been claimed. The incident occurred at Kalibo Airport in Aklan province and involved an Airbus A320-216 carrying 153 passengers and crew from the Filipino capital Manila. Local journalist, Jet Damazo-Santos was on board the plane and uploaded photographs to Twitter showing chaotic scenes as passengers were forced to disembark the aircraft on emergency slides.

According to a report on Vanguard, Adamawa State Police Command, arrested two Police officers over alleged murder of two Fulani youths in Toungo Local Government Area of the state. The two policemen allegedly shot their victims over an argument on N50 bribe in front of the local government headquarters at 5p.m on Friday. Naira Appreciates Against Dollar & Pounds
The Naira on Monday appreciated against the Dollar at both the official and parallel markets. A survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos revealed that the Naira against the Dollar was traded at between N191 and N190 respectively at both markets. Naira gained N2 to the Dollar from the N193 and N192 it sold on December 24. The Naira was sold at N191 to the Dollar at the Bureau De Change (BDCs) from N193 on December 24.
Ebola Virus: Health Worker Diagnosed With Ebola In Glasgow Hospital
A healthcare worker who has just returned from West Africa has been diagnosed with Ebola Virus and is being treated in hospital in Glasgow. The woman, who arrived from Sierra Leone on Sunday night, is in isolation at Glasgow's Gartnavel Hospital. All possible contacts with the case are being investigated, including on flights to Scotland via Heathrow. UK Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt confirmed that the woman would be taken to a specialist unit in London.
