Republic Of Ireland Goes To Polls In Historic Vote On Same-Sex Marriage

Irish voters today, Friday, May 22, went to the polls in an attempt to change the country's constitution to allow same-sex marriage. It's a landmark referendum that, if passed, would make Ireland the first country in the world to adopt same-sex marriage through a popular vote. Ireland's voters will be asked to approve this statement:
"Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex."  

Angry Youths Burn Down Sharia Court House During Protest In Kano

According to reports, angry youths in Kano has burnt down a sharia court scheduled to hear a case of blasphemy against ​the​ Prophet of Islam. The court, which is situated at Rijiyar Lemo, was razed down before the man alleged to have blasphemed the prophet was brought in. The youth also took to the streets protesting an alleged blasphemous comment by the leader of a sect, Tijjaniyya, Abdul Nyass. The youth held up placards condemning the statement made against ​Prophet Mohammed.

Nigerian Military Relocates 260 Boko Haram Survivors For A CVE Programme

The Nigerian army has relocated at least 260 women and children recently rescued from Islamist group Boko Haram. They were taken from a camp in Yola and flown to an unspecified military facility. The women will receive medical help and support as part of their rehabilitation process, the BBC Africa reports. They will be housed at the military facility under the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Programme which is part of the government's "soft approach" to combating terrorism.

Nigerian-born Chinedu Echeruo, formerly an analyst at Investment Banks & Hedge funds who founded HopStop.com in 2005, has now sold it to Apple Inc for a reported $1 Billion. The Wall Street Journal’s publication, AllThingsDigital reports. Founded in 2005, HopStop makes mobile applications for both iOS and Android that covers over 300 cities and that helps people get directions or find nearby subway stations and bus stops. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed as at the time of this publication.

A senior civil servant in the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Mr. Ojo Owolabi, has reportedly attempts committing suicide by drinking a large quantity of insecticide.
