Anambra Attracts N472bn Investments In 18 Months
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Friday, said the state attracted investment worth 2.4 billion dollars (N472bn) in the past 18 months. The governor disclosed this during a courtesy visit and bell ringing at the Nigerian Stock Exchange in Lagos. Obiano said the state government had embarked on several initiatives and strategies aimed at increasing investment and revenue generation.
He said the state’s Internally Generated Revenue currently stood at N1.3bn, adding that there were plans to increase the monthly IGR to N3bn. He said that the state had established an investment outfit where investment discussions could be finalised in a one stop shop within one week.

Lawyer Accused Of Fondling 9-yr-old Girl Arraigned
A 40-year-old lawyer, who was alleged to have fondled a nine-year-old girl at Tinubu Magistrate’s Court premises, Wednesday, was yesterday arraigned before the court by the police. The defendant, who is facing a three-count charge, was arraigned in the chambers of Magistrate L. A. Owolabi.

Crashed Helicopter: Pilots Recovered Dead, Black Boxes Missing
The two remaining persons on board the ill-fated Bristow helicopter that crashed into the Lagos lagoon on Wednesday have been recovered. The victims – the pilots, Captain Joseph Wyatt and First Officer Peter Bello – who were fished out of the lagoon by emergency management agencies and local divers at about 10.30am, had, however, died. The recovery brought the number of deceased persons to six. Thursday that the chopper had taken off from an oil rig station in the country for Lagos, but plunged into the lagoon in the Alonge, Oworonshoki area of the state five minutes before the arrival time.

NDDC Auditors Discover That N183.7bn Is Unaccounted For
The Auditor-General of the Federation, Mr Samuel Ukura, said N183.7 billion could not be accounted for by auditors who conducted a special check on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from 2008 to 2012. Ukura said this on Wednesday in Abuja after submitting three special reports to the National Assembly. Two of the reports were on the Environmental audit on the drying up of Lake Chad while the third was on Special Periodic Checks on the activities and programmes of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Four Killed As Bristow Helicopter Plunges Into Lagoon
Tragedy struck around 3.30pm in the Alonge area of Owonroshoki, Lagos, as a Bristow helicopter carrying 10 passengers with two crew members on board, plunged into the lagoon. It was learnt that four people were killed, while no fewer than six others sustained varying degrees of injury. The aircraft crashed about five minutes to its scheduled landing time at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. The helicopter, with registration number, 5N-BDG-760540, was coming from one of the oil rigs in the country.

280 Cattle Thieves Arrested In Katsina
The Katsina Police Command said on Wednesday, that it had arrested no fewer than 280 suspected cattle rustlers since May. The state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, stated this in Katsina while briefing the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Logistics and Supply, Alhaji Mamman Tsafe, on the successes so far recorded by the command. He said 182 persons were prosecuted and were currently serving various jail terms while others were awaiting trial.

ICPC Orders Mike Okiro To Refund N133m To FG
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has directed the Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro, to remit N133 million to the Federal Treasury through the ICPC recovery account at First City Monument Bank. This was the balance of the N350m he received from the Federal Government for staff trainings and physical monitoring of police personnel during the last general elections.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has urged the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal to upturn a judgment of a Lagos State High Court which freed a former Managing Director of the defunct Bank PHB, Francis Atuche, of N25.7bn theft charges filed against him. Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo, after declining jurisdiction to try the case, had on June 22, 2015 struck out the 27 counts filed against Atuche, his wife, Elizabeth, and a former Chief Financial Officer of Bank PHB, Ugo Anyanwu.

An Ikorodu Customary Court, Lagos, on Tuesday dissolved a 25-year-old marriage, between one Olufade Adekoya and his wife, Olusola, over lateness in preparing meals. President of the court, Mr Olu Adebiyi, who dissolved the marriage, said there was "no longer any love in the marriage.’’

Experts Fault CBN’s Cash Withdrawal Limit From ATM
Some financial experts and businessmen on Tuesday said the Central Bank of Nigeria limit on cash withdrawal via the Automated Teller Machine may lead to a disruption of cash flow. They spoke against the backdrop of the recent CBN policy which pegged the daily cash withdrawal from the ATM at $300 (N60,000) from N150,000. They told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the policy was a contradiction of the cashless regime earlier espoused by the apex bank. An economist, Dr. Evans Osabuohien, said the policy was a contradiction of the cashless policy of the CBN.

The West African Examinations Council has withheld the May/June 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results of hundreds of candidates from 13 states in the country.This comes as the council stated that only 616, 370 candidates obtained credit in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. The candidates represented 38.68 per cent of the candidates who sat for the examination.One million, five hundred and ninety-three thousand and four hundred and forty-two candidates, comprising 864,096 males and 729,346 females, sat for the examination.

WAEC Rleases Results, Withheld 13 Indebted State
The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has released the May/June 2015 WASSCE results, withholding the results of students in 13 states that are owing the Council. The Head of Nigerian Office, Mr Charles Eguridu who disclosed this at its Yaba Office said:”Out of 1,593,442 candidates who sat for the examinations, only 616,370 candidates, representing 38.68% obtained credits in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics.” Justifying the slight improvement in the results from previous years, Eguridu said that in 2013, a total candidates who obtained five credits in English and Mathematics were 639,760 representing 38.30 per cent. He said, in 2014, 529,425 representing 31.28 per cent obtained five credits in English and Mathemstics.
Meanwhile, Eguridu said that 6 states among the 19 states that are owing the Council have paid their debt, left with 13 states.

Buhari Queries Okonjo-Iweala Over Diversion Of $1bn Rail Transport Loan
President Muhammed Buhari on Monday asked the Ministry of Finance to provide explanations on the whereabouts of the foreign loans obtained for rail projects but diverted to other purposes under the watch of former Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Iweala. The president directive followed an instance of the diversion of a substantial part of the loan of USD1.005 billion from the Chinese Exim Bank, meant for the construction of a standard gauge rail line linking Lagos and Kano States to somewhere else. This was even as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Bashar informed the President that only $400 million id left of the loan.
