Unknown Gunmen Assassinates Aide To Governor Al-Makura
Unknown gunmen this Saturday morning assassinated Abdullahi Mairuwa, the head driver to Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Al-Makura Premium Times reports. The late Mr. Mairuwa, who was in charge of all drivers attached to Government House, Lafia, was travelling to his home town in Keana local government area of the state in the company of his wife, Salamatu, when he was assassinated close to Tudun Adabu along the Obi-Keana-Awe road around 8.30 a.m today.

"Nigerian church accused of linking poor discipline to witchcraft wants to open an independent school in Kent. Police Arrests 5 Suspects In Bauchi Bank Bomb Explosion
The Police have said that 13 people died in Friday’s deadly bomb attack as twin explosion rocked the premises of the Azare branch of First Bank earlier today in Bauchi State. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, 10 other people suffered various degrees of injuries in the explosion. Mr. Ojukwu, also said detectives have begun investigation into the incident, with five suspects already arrested. The identities of the suspects were however not disclosed.
Two Dead & Dozens Injured In Stampede At Akwa Ibom New Stadium
According to a report on Premium Times, two people are feared dead while 20 others suffered various degrees of injuries during a stampede at the inauguration ceremony of a new stadium in Akwa Ibom State. It is not clear yet what caused the stampede but an international friendly between the home-based senior national team of Nigeria, Super Eagles B, and the U-23 National Team of Ghana, the Black Meteors, was fixed to mark the ceremony.
UNILAG Awards N41.5 Million To Deserving Students For Excellence
The University of Lagos on Friday awarded the sum of N41.5million to students of the institution that excelled in various fields during the 2012/2013 academic session. The Vice-Chancellor, Rahamon Bello, said at the endowment awards ceremony in Lagos that the scheme was to encourage academic excellence. He said that it was also to encourage outstanding sportsmen and women and provide the much needed financial assistance to the indigent and physically challenged students.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, has moved 20 spots from his earlier position. He was initially the 43rd richest person in the world but now has moved to the 23rd position in the world, while also retaining his position as the Richest Man in Africa, according to the Forbes Magazine. The President of the Dangote Group who has interests in cement, sugar, flour and beverages is now worth $25 billion and is also the first black man to be named among the 25 richest people in the world.

SpiceJet Boeing 737 Airplane Crashes Into Water Buffalo On Take-Off
Dozens of passengers have had a miraculous escape after their plane hit a water buffalo moments before take-off in India. As the Boeing 737 picked up speed on the runway, it ran over the stray animal, causing extensive damage to the aircraft's engine. No one was injured in Thursday's collision. "If the plane had taken off after this, we would have crashed. Thank God we were saved," said Prabhakar Joshi, a passenger on the SpiceJet flight from Surat to Delhi.

Scores Feared Killed As Fire Guts NNPC Pipeline In Lagos
Scores of suspected pipeline vandals were Thursday feared killed in a massive inferno that gutted a petroleum pipeline belonging to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at Ijedodo area of Lagos State. Vanguard gathered that some suspected pipeline vandals, had besieged the pipeline around 6pm and were said to be scooping petroleum product into jerry cans.

Boko Haram Steals Dynamites From Lafarge Nigeria Plant
According to reports, suspected Boko Haram Islamist militants who raided a cement factory owned by Lafarge subsidiary Ashaka Cement 48hrs ago, reportedly seized dynamites from the quarry, witnesses and a security source said on Thursday. Lafarge Africa said the plant "was the target of an intrusion by people who were strangers to the plant", but it added that "the situation has now stabilised and there is no report of any injury to employees or damage to the plant."
