Three Crew Members Confirmed Dead In Military Helicopter Crash In Yola

A Nigerian Air Forces helicopter that crashed last night around the premises of the Federal University of Technology in Yola has killed all three crew members on board. A Statement on Defence Headquarters said that a ground helicopter belonging to the Nigeria Air force crashed some 200 kilometres from the war theatre where Nigerian troops have been battling Islamist insurgents crashed a few minutes after take-off.  The latest chopper crash is the second in the last 72 hours.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Equatorial Guinea as the new host of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following the withdrawal of hitherto designated hosts, Morocco. The African football governing body said in a statement that Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Obiang had accepted a request from CAF President Issa Hayatou to stage the tournament from 17 January to 8 February as originally scheduled.

International Islamist Rebel Group, ISIS Announces New Currency

(CNN) - ISIS is planning to mint its own currency in gold, silver and copper, the group said Thursday. Its aim is to stay away from the "tyrant's financial system," ISIS said in a statement. It said it would issue another statement to explain the new currency's exchange rate, and where it can be found. The currency will include seven coins: two gold, three silver and two copper. The move is "purely dedicated to God" and will remove Muslims from the "global economic system that is based on satanic usury," ISIS said.

Insurgency: Mubi Town Recaptured & Boko Haram Leader Arrested

Leader of Boko Haram militants, Amir, has been arrested in Mubi, Adamawa State, by a combined force of the military and local hunters. A British Broadcasting Corportion (BBC) Hausa report said Amir was overpowered during an encounter and had since been taken to an unknown destination in Adamawa State. An eyewitness who spoke to BBC said Amir, a light skinned man with beard, was bundled and tied with a rope, while his disciples fled. “Amir was not talking, he looked sad and angry,” said the witness.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Tuesday that about 4, 658 Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) were snatched in various places in Edo State during the distribution of the cards. Another Military Helicopter Crashes In Adamawa State

A helicopter believed to belong to the Nigerian military crashed in Yola, Adamawa State around 9pm around Modibbo Adama University of Technology‎ [MAUTECH] in Girei Local Government Area of the state yesterday. Residents disclosed that the helicopter stalled in the sky before crashing to the ground in a ball of fire. (CNN) - The most "complicated" handmade watch in the world has been sold at auction for an historic $24.4 million. The Henry Graves Super-complication timepiece, made by the luxury watchmaker Patek Philippe in 1933 for the prominent banker Henry Graves, was sold at Sotheby's in Switzerland. United States Denies Failing To Help Nigeria Fight Boko Haram

Washington (AFP) - The United States hit back Wednesday at allegations by the Nigerian ambassador of failing to help fight Boko Haram militants, saying there had been "a great deal" of US aid to his country. Over 70 Boko Haram Insurgents Killed As Local Hunters Recaptures Adamawa Town

According to reports, at least 75 Boko Haram militants were killed by local hunters in Maiha Local Government area of Adamawa State, residents of the area have said. Maiha town, which is about 25 kilometres from Mubi town that was captured about two weeks ago after a fierce battle with the Nigerian troops. Sources say local hunters ambushed the insurgents and killed them in their dozens.
