The anxiety surrounding the demise of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, has continued to heighten as worshippers of Oro began the annual festival in the ancient town on Friday night. Oro is a deity worshipped across Yoruba land, which forbids the womenfolk from going outdoors in the night during the period of its festival. Although, sources in Ife told our correspondent that the festival, scheduled to commence on Friday night had nothing to do with the demise of the Ooni, the public believe otherwise.

Millions of Nigerians are complaining as petrol sells above N110 and queues by motorists continue to grow across the country. This is against an official price of N87 per litre as the Federal Government subsidises Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) with N45.28 on every litre, according to latest figure from the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency.

Plane Crashes Into Hampshire Car Dealership
Three passengers and the pilot of a Saudi-owned private jet have died after the aircraft crashed into a car auction near Farnborough, Hampshire. The small private jet overshot the runway at Blackbushe Airport on the Hampshire-Surrey border, before ploughing into the neighbouring car auction site, destroying at least 15 cars.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, has said that the troops of the 151 Task Force Battalion rescued a total of 59 civilians held by members of the Boko Haram sect on Thursday. Usman said that the 59 civilians were rescued during a raid on Kashingeri, Wale Kushingoro terrorists’ camp, where the captives were held by the Boko Haram.

Major General Abbah Named New Head Of Multinational Force On Boko Haram
Nigeria has named a general to lead the new multinational task force to fight Boko Haram Islamists, the military said on Thursday. Major General Iliya Abbah, who previously commanded military operations in the oil-rich Niger Delta, will head the new force, Nigerian military spokesman Major General Chris Olukolade said. The 8,700-strong Multi-National Joint Task Force, drawing in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin, is expected to be more effective than the current alliance in the battle to end Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency that has claimed some 15,000 lives. Abbah was until his new appointment the military secretary in the army, Olukolade added.

A man convicted of taking part in India’s worst-ever attack, the 1993 bombings in Mumbai, has been hanged, Indian TV stations reported. Senate President, Bukola Saraki, said on Wednesday that the newly appointed service chiefs would be screened during plenary on Thursday by 11am. A Nigerian-born Australian man will appear in a Sydney court on Wednesday after allegedly importing 30 kilograms of methamphetamine in skipping ropes, dresses, air compressor units and engine parts. Court Rejects Moves To Stop Saraki
A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected a prayer by five senators opposed to the emergence of Bukola Saraki as the Senate President to stop the upper legislative chamber from constituting its standing and ad hoc committees. The five plaintiffs in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/651/2015 – Senators Abu Ibrahim, Kabir Marafa, Ajayi Boroffice, Olugbenga Ashafa and Suleiman Hunkuni – made the request in an ex parte application which was moved by their lawyer Chief Mamman Osuman (SAN), on Tuesday.

Fayose Approves N119m Car Loan For Ekiti Workers
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has approved the disbursement of a sum of N119m as car loans to 623 workers in the state public service. New Well Drilling Moves Lagos Closer To First Oil
The possibility of first oil from the Aje shallow-water field offshore Lagos this year has received a significant boost with the commencement of drilling on the Aje-5 production well on the Oil Mining Licence 113. The Aje-5 well is part of the first phase of a two-phase development plan for the field.
The well is being drilled with the Saipem Scarabeo 3 semi-submersible drilling rig, Panoro Energy, one of the joint partners involved in the Aje field development, said in a statement on Monday.
The firm said, “Following drilling, the Aje-5 well will be completed as a subsea oil production well.
“The drilling and completion for Aje-5 is expected to take approximately 70 days. Following this, the rig will be used to re-enter the existing Aje-4 well to complete it as a second Cenomanian subsea oil production well.”

SERAP Sues JAMB, Unilag Over Admission Cut-Off Marks
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has dragged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the University of Lagos to court over “outrageous cut-off marks decisions”.
JAMB had pegged university admission cut-off mark nationwide at 180, but Unilag said students who scored lower than 250 stand no chance of being admitted to any of its programmes. SERAP is seeking an order stopping JAMB, Unilag and others from implementing the 250 score benchmark.

Police Find Body In Search For Missing Seven Years Old schoolboy
Police searching for a missing seven-year-old who vanished from a park where he had been playing with friends have found a body. Conley Thompson had not been seen since last night, when he set off for home after meeting friends in Locke Park in Barnsley. His disappearance prompted a huge police search, but this morning officers revealed that they had discovered a body at a building site, not far from Conley's home in the Worsbrough area of the town. South Yorkshire police said a child's body was found at approximately 8.30am and although formal identification is yet to take place, it is believed to be that of Conley.

The Baale of Temidire Alagbado, Chief Nojeem Abioye, his son, and nine others have been arrested in connection with the murder of Alhaji Olatunji Rasaq, alias Alaso, who was killed penultimate Monday in Alagbado area of Lagos.
