Only Nigerians Know Why They Rejected Us – PDP

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has said only Nigerians are in the position to say why the party was rejected at the poll during the last general elections. It said the rejection of the party was still a surprise despite the achievements it claimed the party recorded in the last 16 years, during which it was in control of the Federal Government. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, stated this at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.

Vigilance Group Uncovers Joint For Female Strippers In Asaba

An Asaba-based vigilance group has uncovered a joint where female teenagers dance naked and has arrested the operator of the joint. The joint, located in Asaba, hosts bizarre activities, including pornographic shows, especially at weekends. Confirming the arrest of the operator, the vigilance group boss, Chukwudi Nnamdi, said the suspect was arrested last week Thursday and handed over to the police. Police sources at the ‘A’ Division Asaba confirmed that the operator of the joint was being interrogated.

Boko Haram Now In Lagos –DSS

The Department of State Services has arrested 20 suspected Boko Haram commanders in Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Plateau and Gombe states. The suspects, who were arrested between July 8 and August 25, 2015, include the masterminds of the suicide attacks in Potiskum, Kano, Zaria, and Jos. The DSS in a statement by an official, Tony Opuiyo, on Sunday in Abuja, said those arrested were notable commanders and frontline members of the notorious group from different parts of the country.
The statement noted that the group’s new pattern of movement and spread was caused by the pressure being put on it by security forces in its core areas of strength in the North-East.

EFCC Sets Up Four-Man Panel On Diezani

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced a full investigation into the activities of the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. It was learnt on Sunday that the commission constituted a four-member committee of crack detectives to probe all the NNPC accounts which were supervised by the former minister.

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards was held on Sunday, August 30, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Awards will be handed out in 16 categories, and Kanye West will be presented with the Vanguard Award. Taylor Swift leads the nominations for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, boasting 10, mostly for her "Bad Blood" video, which is nominated for Video of the Year. Ed Sheeran boasts the second most nominations with six. He is also nominated for Video of the Year for "Thinking Out Loud." Kendrick Lamar also boasts four nominations.

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of unleashing tax burdens on the poor, saying his policies contrasted what he promised the people. In a statement at the weekend by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, the party said the governor had turned the people to “babies without reason.” “What we have experienced in the hands of Governor Ayodele Fayose is turning Ekiti people to babies without reason. He believes Ekiti people have no capacity for reasoning or that they have short memories and incapable of knowing their rights or that they can easily be incapacitated to insist on their rights.

DSS Arrests B’Haram Commander Linked With Suicide Attacks

Nigeria’s secret police on Sunday, disclosed that it had arrested notable Boko Haram suspects, including a key commander, linked with several suicide attacks across the country, reports AFP. The Department of State Services (DSS) said in a statement said that Usman Shuiabu known as Money and other frontline members of the hardline Islamist group were picked up in Lagos, Kano, Plateau, Enugu and Gombe states between July and August.

Jonathan, Diezani Face Probe Over $6.9m Campaign Stages

The ongoing probe of the immediate past administration by President Muhammadu Buhari is to beam its searchlight on the alleged purchase of three mobile stages, costing $6.9m, by former President Goodluck Jonathan and two of his officials, a Presidency source has said. According to a document, which was obtained from the Presidency on Saturday, the deal, which is now a subject of investigation, was allegedly carried out by Jonathan; his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Gordon Obuah; and former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Cholera Kills 20 In Bauchi

Twenty persons have died of cholera in Shira Local Government Area (LGA), Bauchi State. This is contained in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria by the Information Officer in the LGA, Malam Danlami Baza, in Bauchi on Saturday. The statement said 200 persons were admitted in the hospital.

Chad Sentences 10 Boko Haram Fighters To Death

A court in Chad on Friday sentenced 10 suspected members of Nigeria-based Islamist group Boko Haram to death in connection with a double suicide bombing in June that killed 38 people in the capital N’Djamena. “The 10 Boko Haram defendants have been condemned to death,” declared the ruling in Chad’s first trial of Boko Haram members. The defendants were accused of criminal conspiracy, murder, wilful destruction with explosives, fraud, and illegal possession of arms and ammunition as well as using psychotropic substances.
