Justice Mosun Babatunde of Ado-Ekiti High Court yesterday sentenced a 55-year-old man, Jimoh Ayeni and his son, Haruna to death for killing a farmer, Chief Clement Ayeni. The judge further directed that the man and his son should die by hanging after he found them guilty of the murder of Ayeni while working in his farm. The judge further held that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubts that the duo committed the murder on June 27, 2012.
Pronouncing the death verdict on the convicts, the judge said, “The sentence of the court upon you is that you be hanged by the neck until you will be dead. May the Lord have mercy on your souls.
The prosecuting state lawyer, Mr Familoni Adeniyi, had submitted that the convicts murdered the deceased at Ose Egbeda Camp in Emure-Ekiti in Ekiti East Local Government Area.
According to Adeniyi, offence is contrary to Section 316 of the Criminal Code Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012. Eight witnesses testified for the prosecution and the defence team when the case came up for hearing.
