Authorities of the 3 Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday arrested two fake soldiers who specialised in impersonating army generals to dupe government agencies and parastatals.They were yesterday paraded by the army in Jos, Maxwell Khobe cantonment, Rukuba barracks, the headquarters of 3 Div by the Division’s Army Public Relations Officer and the Commander, Provost Group, Col. Texas Chukwu and Col. Arnold Okoro, respectively on behalf of the General Officer Commanding, Major General John Zaruma.
The suspects were identified as Aliyu Haussaini and Ibrahim Mohammed. According to Chukwu, the suspects were arrested on September 17, 2014 in Bauchi State after a tip off adding that while Aliyu, a 46-year-old Fulani from Adamawa State posed as an officer of the rank of Brigadier General, Ibrahim, 40 and Kanuri by tribe served as his assistant.
Chukwu said Nigerian Army uniforms and various ranks including a 406 saloon car, were discovered during a search at Aliyu’s house in Kaduna. He said the suspects confessed that the reason for impersonating the military officers was to give them easy access to the corridors of power and help them secure contracts.
