Nigerian Arrested With N1bn Cash In Niger

The police in neighbouring Niger Republic have arrested a Nigerian carrying 4.6m Euros (N1.05bn) in cash. The man was arrested at the Diori Hamani Airport in Niamey, the capital of Niger, en route Dubai in the United Arab Emirate. The Nigerien police said they suspected that the man was fleeing with the money in order to avoid being caught by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, who has been prosecuting an anti-corruption campaign since assumption of office on May 29.
They also expressed worry that there had been an upsurge in the number of Nigerians trafficking huge sums of money in cash through the neighbouring country.

Trailer Falls Off Bridge, Kills Three In Lagos

No fewer than three people were killed on Wednesday after a container on a 40-feet trailer fell off the Ojuelegba Bridge onto the road below. Punch Metro learnt that the container, which was not latched to the trailer, crushed two private vehicles which were in motion. The vehicles, a white Toyota and a black jeep, were reportedly mangled under the weight of the container. A crowd of residents and motorists was said to have converged on the scene as there was apprehension on the number of casualties involved in the incident. The situation was said to have caused traffic snarl in the area as traffic officials had a tough time controlling the number of people trooping the scene and redirecting the traffic.

Buhari To Give Primary School Pupils Free Meals

Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday said the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration would soon commence giving primary school children free meals. The vice president said the free feeding scheme was a core project of the Federal Government that would in turn yield about 1.14 million jobs and increase in food production. Osinbajo said this at the 45th Annual Accountants Conference in Abuja. He said the government would be investing more in the people, education and job creation.

I Raped My Daughter Six Times – Father

A 34 year old bakery worker, Mohammed Ahmed, on Wednesday confessed that he raped his daughter six times. Ahmed, who was paraded by officials of the Osun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, told journalists  in Osogbo that he started having sex with his  14-year-old daughter (name withheld) since April. The distraught primary 5 girl, dressed in public school uniform was not allowed to speak to journalists. He said, “I have two wives. The first had left and she gave birth to three children. The second wife gave birth to two children before she died.
“This one is the first child of my first wife.  I don’t know what came over me from April when I started having sex with my daughter.  I did not see anything  wrong then, whenever  I was having sex with her. I only have sex with her six times  since April 2015.”

NEMA Donates Relief Materials To 272 Deportees

The National Emergency Management Agency on Wednesday in Ibi, Taraba State, distributed relief materials to 272 Nigerians deported from Niger Republic. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the materials were distributed to the deportees and also to victims of insurgency at the internally displaced persons camp in the area. NEMA Director-General, Alhaji Muhammed Sani-Sidi, presented the materials to the IDPs in Ibi on behalf of the Federal Government.

Turkey Confirms 18 Construction Workers Kidnapped In Baghdad

Turkey on Wednesday confirmed that 18 Turkish construction workers have been kidnapped by unknown individuals in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. “Eighteen Turkish citizens working for a construction company in Baghdad have been kidnapped,” Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus told reporters. “We are in close contact with the Iraqi (interior) ministry and hope the incident will end positively.”

28 Years Old Graduate And Four Others Nabbed With N57m Cocaine

A 28-year-old university graduate of Economics, Nonso Akubueze, has been arrested along with four other suspects by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for alleged drug trafficking. It was learnt that Akubueze and the other suspects – Simon Omoluonye, Obidike Onodyer, Friday Onyeabor and Emma Ifoh – were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, with 11.5 kilogrammes of cocaine substances valued at N57m.  The suspects had smuggled the drug into the country from Brazil.

Pope Francis on Tuesday directed priests across the world to grant forgiveness to women who have had abortions. Lawyer Sues Buhari Over Appointments

A lawyer, Marcel Dim-Udebuani, has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to nullify all the the 25 major appointments made so far by President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly being in breach of principle of federal character enshrined in the nation’s Constitution. The plaintiff filed his suit marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/732/2015, in which joined the Chairman, Federal Character Commission as the second defendant, on Monday. He contended that the 25 appointments made so far by the President were in breach of the spirit of federal character enshrined in section 14 (3) of 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

About 17 years after she was born through In Vitro Fertilisation, Nigeria’s first test tube baby, Miss Hannatu Kupchi, has secured admission into a Hungarian University to study medicine. The medical doctor that supervised the first IVF experiment in Nigeria, Dr. Ibrahim Wada, said Hannatu’s birth on February 11, 1998, at Nisa Premier Hospital in Abuja, signalled a revolution in the practice of medicine in Nigeria.

Buhari Should Invite Looters For Talks —Okogie

Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari, to invite suspected looters of the country’s treasury for talks. He said the President’s efforts to retrieve looted funds would be made easier if looters were allowed to return their loot without castigating them publicly. Okogie, in an interview with our correspondent, said it was also cheaper to recover loot through dialogue than charging suspected public fund thieves to court.

Vigilance Group Uncovers Joint For Female Strippers In Asaba

An Asaba-based vigilance group has uncovered a joint where female teenagers dance naked and has arrested the operator of the joint. The joint, located in Asaba, hosts bizarre activities, including pornographic shows, especially at weekends. Confirming the arrest of the operator, the vigilance group boss, Chukwudi Nnamdi, said the suspect was arrested last week Thursday and handed over to the police. Police sources at the ‘A’ Division Asaba confirmed that the operator of the joint was being interrogated.

Boko Haram Now In Lagos –DSS

The Department of State Services has arrested 20 suspected Boko Haram commanders in Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Plateau and Gombe states. The suspects, who were arrested between July 8 and August 25, 2015, include the masterminds of the suicide attacks in Potiskum, Kano, Zaria, and Jos. The DSS in a statement by an official, Tony Opuiyo, on Sunday in Abuja, said those arrested were notable commanders and frontline members of the notorious group from different parts of the country.
The statement noted that the group’s new pattern of movement and spread was caused by the pressure being put on it by security forces in its core areas of strength in the North-East.

EFCC Sets Up Four-Man Panel On Diezani

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced a full investigation into the activities of the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. It was learnt on Sunday that the commission constituted a four-member committee of crack detectives to probe all the NNPC accounts which were supervised by the former minister.

APC Accuses Fayose Of Unleashing Tax Burdens

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of unleashing tax burdens on the poor, saying his policies contrasted what he promised the people. In a statement at the weekend by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, the party said the governor had turned the people to “babies without reason.” “What we have experienced in the hands of Governor Ayodele Fayose is turning Ekiti people to babies without reason. DSS Arrests B’Haram Commander Linked With Suicide Attacks

Nigeria’s secret police on Sunday, disclosed that it had arrested notable Boko Haram suspects, including a key commander, linked with several suicide attacks across the country, reports AFP. The Department of State Services (DSS) said in a statement said that Usman Shuiabu known as Money and other frontline members of the hardline Islamist group were picked up in Lagos, Kano, Plateau, Enugu and Gombe states between July and August.

Jonathan, Diezani Face Probe Over $6.9m Campaign Stages

The ongoing probe of the immediate past administration by President Muhammadu Buhari is to beam its searchlight on the alleged purchase of three mobile stages, costing $6.9m, by former President Goodluck Jonathan and two of his officials, a Presidency source has said. According to a document, which was obtained from the Presidency on Saturday, the deal, which is now a subject of investigation, was allegedly carried out by Jonathan; his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Gordon Obuah; and former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Cholera Kills 20 In Bauchi

Twenty persons have died of cholera in Shira Local Government Area (LGA), Bauchi State. This is contained in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria by the Information Officer in the LGA, Malam Danlami Baza, in Bauchi on Saturday. The statement said 200 persons were admitted in the hospital.

A plot by the Boko Haram sect to bomb the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has been uncovered by the Department of State Services. The agency said it had foiled the plot, involving a spying network at the airport, by unmasking the brains behind the act. Following the development, the service has stepped security at all airports across the country to frustrate other criminal plots and protect lives and property.

Chad Sentences 10 Boko Haram Fighters To Death

A court in Chad on Friday sentenced 10 suspected members of Nigeria-based Islamist group Boko Haram to death in connection with a double suicide bombing in June that killed 38 people in the capital N’Djamena. “The 10 Boko Haram defendants have been condemned to death,” declared the ruling in Chad’s first trial of Boko Haram members. The defendants were accused of criminal conspiracy, murder, wilful destruction with explosives, fraud, and illegal possession of arms and ammunition as well as using psychotropic substances.

Fayose Appoints 72-Year-Old Carpenter Local Government Chairman

 

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has appointed a 72-year-old illiterate, Pa Olatunde Afolayan, as the caretaker chairman of Moba Local Government Area. He also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Mrs. Amina Zakari as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission. The governor, who stated this during the inauguration of Boards, Commissions and Governing Councils in the state, said it was only God that saved him from the failed impeachment plot. Mrs. Omolara Ayeni and Mr. Owolabi Ajewole were also sworn in as chairmen of Ikole and Ijero local government areas, following the resignation of those earlier appointed by the governor.

An early morning fire incident occurred in the residence of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in the Maitama area of Abuja on Friday, but no casualty was recorded. We Hid Cocaine In Arik Flight Meals – Attendant’s Accomplice

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday said it had apprehended another employee of Arik Air, Ikechukwu Chibuzor Oliver, for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of 20kg cocaine to London on Monday. According to the NDLEA, Oliver had confessed to the crime and had revealed that he charged N400,000 for each of the three bags containing the substance. Oliver, Arik Air’s employee in the catering department, was said to have assisted Chika Egwu Udensi to get the cocaine onboard the London-bound Flight W3101 on which Udensi arrived in the UK on Monday night.

Kim Kardashian May Get Uterus Removed After Her Second Pregnancy

Kim Kardashian got pretty candid about her health problems when trying to conceive. The 34-year-old reality star shared with C magazine's Amanda de Cadenet that she suffered from a condition called placenta accreta that she believes made it harder for her to get pregnant a second time. "There were a couple of little operations to fix all that, so that created a little hole in my uterus, which I think made it really tough to get pregnant again," she said of her condition.
