The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Thursday paraded a job racketeer kingpin for defrauding desperate job seekers to the tune of N955 million. NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Okeh told journalists that Mr. Michael Ogun, 44, was arrested at his resident at New Nyanya, Abuja
where he perpetrated his nefarious activities. According to Okeh, the scammer opened a facebook account in the name of the Commandant General of the Corps as a means of swindling applicants by asking them to pay money into some bank account numbers for the purpose of recruitment.
"The scammer so far has defrauded applicants seeking for employment into the Corps, Custom, Immigration and other services to the tune of N403, 624, 992.
"While other fraudulent financial transactions in US Dollar amount to $950, 000 and other transaction involving money laundry amount to N552, 371, 901.50.
"Therefore, from different fraudulent accounts, the total sum of N955, 996, 893.50 was said to have passed through his bank accounts."
According to Okeh, the fraudster printed fake employment letters of different agencies including the Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and Customs service, and issued same to his victims by urging them to report for documentation at a particular time.
Those defrauded by the suspect were posted to places like Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. He said Ogun will be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution.
He however warned the public that the Commandant General of the corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin or the corps is not operating any facebook account for the purpose of recruitment or operating an online recruitment, while warning that anyone who patronizes such does at his own risk.
However, the suspect declined any knowledge of the allegation, saying, "I'm completely demoralized, those things were not perpetrated by me, all these things that are said about me, am so surprised to hear it, there is someone that is the brain behind this, I want the person to come into the picture.
"It is a big time set up, the person that is setting me up is an officer of this corps, his name is John Oliseh, is the brain behind all this. The laptop was taken from my house, and it belongs to my managing director working with me".
