Man Willing To Swap His Detroit 3-Bedroom House For New iPhone 6

A man has offered to exchange a three-bedroom house (above photo) in Detroit for a new iPhone 6. The owner, who has not released his name publicly, is an Austrian man who has never actually lived in Detroit and has resorted to the stunt owing to the property’s decrepit state and a desire to sell it before the city’s auction season floods the market.
According to ABC News, the man bought the house in 2010 for $41,000 (£25,500) after being told he would make a quick profit by renting it out - little did he know that the person selling it to him had bought the house two weeks earlier for just $10,500.
With so many empty properties in the area, the owner has struggled to rent out the three-bed, detached house and it now has $6,000 worth of unpaid taxes on it. Detroit has gone through a long period of economic decline since the fall of its automobile manufacturing market and thousands of homes like this are left standing empty and in ruin.

The Austrian is now willing to trade the property for a new iPhone 6, although he has said he would also accept a 32GB iPad, after reducing the price from $5,000. However, the new owner will have to take on the property’s debts. Four people have made a bid, with one woman saying she was interested in it for its wood.
Mr Else also hinted that this ploy may have inspired other home-owners in the area. “I did get a call from a seller today who said ‘We've been having a hard time selling our house. Could I get a 1994 Chevy for it?’.”
