Much respect to #Akon, Africa's son that went away and didn't forget his roots, the son that didn't abandon his own for new culture. The Singer recently rolled out his solar academy plans which teaches students about using solar panels to bring light to nations in Africa, a project his hopes will provide electricity to 600 million people.
The Senegalese Star called the initiative, “Akon Lighting Africa” which will help
developing nations harness the power of the sun, on a continent has 320 days of
sunshine a year. The initiative will also bring legitimate jobs to the continent
as well as educate, since 70 percent of Africa’s population is under the age of
35.
Tech Times also reports that Akon Lighting Africa has received a credit line of line of
$1 billion from construction giant, China Jiangsu International to begin work in
low-resource areas of Africa.
