The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced earnest investigations into the administration of Sullivan Chime of Enugu State. An operative of the commission said on Thursday that the EFCC investigation was in response to several petitions written by indigenes of Enugu State about the financial operations of the previous administration in the state. It was stated that EFCC operatives were engrossed in moves to verify allegation of funds misappropriation involving a huge amount of money.
There is a likelihood that Chime might be invited for interrogation even though the operative did not give the exact date for the interrogation. As a prelude to the investigation of the former Administration in Enugu State, operatives on Thursday grilled the Chief of Staff to former Governor Sullivan Chime, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo. Investigations revealed that Nwobodo was quizzed by a crack team of operatives from the Economic Governance Unit of the EFCC for alleged money laundering-related offences. It was learnt that the commission was also investigating the former Chief of Staff for misappropriation of public funds, abuse of office and others. Mrs. Nwobodo arrived the Idiagbon House Headquarters of the commission by 9.30am and was immediately taken into one of the interrogation rooms for questioning by a waiting team of operatives. As of the time of filing this report by 5pm, she was still with the EFCC.
The source said, “The former Chief of Staff to Governor Chime is still with the commission. Her invitation is believed to be precursor to the interrogation of her principal as the agency is said to be flooded with petitions indicting Chime of humongous graft during his eight-year rule as Governor of Enugu State from 2007 to 2015.” When our correspondent contacted the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, for his comment, he said that Mrs. Nwobodo, was being interrogated by the operatives. He said, “Yes, I can confirm to you that the former Chief of Staff to Governor Chime is being interrogated at the commission now.”
