According to New Telegraph, Nigerians reportedly spent N602.6 billion on airtime for their phones between January and May 2014. The figure was derived by analysis of the the subscriber data released monthly by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and the current industry’s Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) provided by telecoms operators.
With 57.2 million telephone users on its network, MTN currently has the largest subscriber base and revenue generation of all the networks in the country.
Airtel Nigeria comes in second with 25.5 million; Globacom is third with 23.4 million, and Etisalat is 4th, with 18.5 million users on its network. The aforementioned ranking is based on data released in March.
