Human rights activists, medical/theatre professionals and Nollywood stars held a rally in Ikeja, Lagos today to educate the public on the threat of Ebola virus. A high point in the agenda for the rally was their joint opposition of the September 22nd date set for resumption of schools. Leading the rally, women's activist and leader of the Women Arise group, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, said the resumption of schools without provision for running waters, sanitary items and renovation of school toilets is an invitation to a public epidemic.
Reiterating Dr. Odumakin's position, veteran Nollywood actor, Prince Jide Kosoko, said school toilets are an eyesore that put children at susceptible ends to disease infection.
All participants at the rally called on the Government to ensure proper renovation of school toilets and ensure provision of sanitary equipment before resumption is allowed.
