Son of slain African American human rights activist, Martin Luther King III, has called on
the abductors of the Chibok schoolgirls to listen to the cries of the world and
release them to their grief-stricken parents.
Speaking at a colloquium in honour of fallen Niger Delta
hero, Isaac Boro, Luther King III
also advocated the non-violent approach instead of terror in expressing
grievances with government.
Martin Luther King III has joined in the crusade for the
release of the abducted chibok school girls. He said, “I am very concerned about the kidnapped girls in northeastern Nigeria
as the world is. And I want to take this opportunity to appeal to those who are
responsible for kidnapping to return those precious girls and young women to
their families unharmed. Releasing the girls is the right thing to do. I know
their parents are hurting and upsetting, it is causing them to suffer even more
than they would ever need to and it’s certainly cruel and inhumane. So I appeal
to the kidnappers to reject terrorism and violence and show the world that they
are people of kindness and genuine humane concern for welfare of these girls.”
He further said, “Terrorism
never wins hearts and minds, because it is rooted in fear and violence instead
of setting examples that can inspire the best in people. I believe only
non-violence can set an enduring example that earns the respect and goodwill of
the community.”
The world eagerly awaits the release of the Chibok girls
almost two months after their kidnap.
