According to reports, Two sisters, Ejura and Onekwu Opaluwah were kidnapped on Sunday, June 8th by
five armed men who stormed their home in Karmo, Abuja. The Covenant University students were taken away in the booth of a blue
Honda car with number plate, HR 152 ABC around
5.00 p.m.
The girls’ uncle, Amadi
Opaluwah, reportedly stated that the incident started as a robbery
operation around 5pm on that day. According to his account, the gunmen stormed
the Opaluwah’s residence and went straight
to the girls’ father’s bedroom, and
robbed him of his valuables. As they were fleeing, they grabbed the girls, and
put them in the boot of their vehicle.
The abductors allegedly called the Opaluwah family demanding
for a N200 million ransom, which they eventually reduced to N150 million.
Amadi stated that the abduction was not politically
motivated, as the father of the girls is a civil servant and not a politician. “We are pleading with the abductors to
release the girls, they are innocent. Also, I want my nieces to have faith, be
calm and patient. By God’s grace, they will be home soon,” he said.
