“I Find Men Who Cook Very Romantic”– Female DJ Frizzie Talks Humble Beginning, Career & More

Frances Higgwe hit the limelight when she performed at Mr Nigeria 2011 winner, Deji Bakare's popular TV reality show "Deji Bakare Talent Search"grand finale. Known as DJ Frizzie in the Nigerian entertainment landscape, she is one of Nigeria’s foremost female DJs who is giving the guys a run for their money. In this interview with eGistonline’s Odinaka George, she reveals how the journey began, she also talks about her challenges, her ideal man and many more.
Who is DJ Frizzie? Can We Meet You?
My name is Frances Higgwe, I’m from kalabari in Rivers State, Just me and my brother in my small family. I was born, schooled and raised in Portharcourt, I studied environmental engineering in Uniport. I’m a DJ, Producer, Artiste and web designer.

Aspirations As a Child Growing Up?
When I was 5-years old, I wanted to be a medical doctor to follow the footsteps of my parents but realized it required a lot of reading of plenty books and I wasn't a book person so I diverted into engineering. When I was 16 I stumbled on software for deejays and fell in love with it. I found out that I love mixing songs for friends whenever we are having fun or partying. In 2010 was called up to help DJ in Uniport, I did so well and realized that this is what I want to do for real.
Challenges From Family & Friends On Knowing You Chose To Be A DJ Instead Of A Doctor?
I never really cared about how anyone felt about my chosen career except my parents, all I ever wanted is for them to support and back me up. It was really difficult from the start but as time went on, they realized this is what I was meant to do. My mum even bought my first Deejay set of equipments, from then other people including my friends joined up.

Mr 2Kay Just Announced You As His Official DJ & You Released A Video Mix, How Has The Reception Been From The Entertainment Industry & Fans?
Ever since the announcement and my video mix premiere the love has been huge, I've been getting congratulatory messages, the downloads for my mix has been really encouraging. I'm just short of words; it shows I'm really making progress.
How Did You Meet Mr 2Kay?
We are from Rivers State and we knew each other way back from Portharcourt, we've been supporting each other, so we grew into a team and the close relationship sealed it all I must say.

Where Do You Get Inspiration From?
I’ve been a huge fan of David Guetta and female DJ Supermodel, she’s based in New York and I like DJ Clems’s productions as well. I should just say the both deejays are my first mentors.
What Particular Event Did You Feature That Brought You To Limelight?
The major events are Mr Nigeria 2011 winner, Deji Bakare's popular reality TV show "Deji Bakare Talent Search" grand finale at the Silverbird galleria, MC Shakara’s comedy event, and Seyi Law’s comedy concert and being featured on MTV Base's club chart playlist. I must say Seyi Law’s event tops it all because there were multiple artistes that I barely met before featured on the night.
Female Deejaying Is a Lucrative Job, How Do You Cope In a Male-Dominated Industry?
I believe in myself and my ability and have an edge with my confidence to my competitors.

What’s The Biggest Lesson Christianity Has Taught You?
Christianity has taught me to believe that everyone has a God-given talent and you should try and find yours and use it to affect people positively in whatever situation you find yourself in.

How Do Relax From Life Hustles And After Work?
I’ll eat good food. I watch movie series as well and then I sleep, that’s my highest relaxation.

Are You In a Relationship? Single? Or Married?
I'm very much single and waiting on the Lord for the right one

What Are The Qualities You Are Looking For In Your Ideal Man?
He must be a Christian and God fearing, he has to be very patient and I will love it if he cooks well because with that alone, I'm all his, I find it so romantic.

Can You Date Anyone In The Entertainment Industry?
I think No (laughs) we can't be in the same industry because of the busy schedules, but if God provides one, His wish will be my command.

Is There Anything That Nigerians Have Not Seen About DJ Frizzie That Will Be Revealed Soon?
