The incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has allegedly financed serving cooked rice to his
guests. His main challenger and rival, Ayo
Fayose responded by sharing bags of rice with his supporters.
The nollywood screen diva, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and social activist described these actions
as “shameful act”, urged the citizens
to rise against such manipulations by stakeholders and political office
seekers. Omosexy expressed her anger and irritation by the situation during her
speech at a special fund-
raising dinner titled Enough is Enough’s (EiE) Register,
Select, Vote and Protect, R.S.V.P. in Lagos on June 12, 2014.
The actress tagged the politicians as shameless, but, at the
same time, warned the people against selling their votes and rights. “We can all laugh at the pictures and say oh
my God, look at this stupid people, but you know you are sitting down and not
doing anything. Remember that your grandmother is also there. And they are
insulting her with the cups of rice. If your grandmother is not there, her
cousin is there,” she added.
Omotola emphasized that said Nigerians should not consider
themselves as followers, because to lead also means to influence someone. Though
the actress abstained from mentioning any particular name, it was obvious that
she had attributed this part of her speech to some controversial photos from
Ekiti pre-elections gatherings, given above.
The recent EiE event in Lagos also had Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw and an entrepreneur Kola Oyeneyin as hosts, while soul
singer Timi Dakolo entertained guest
with his wonderful vocals.
