How big dreams cut short! 15-year old Sarah Ibikunle, once had dreams of becoming a lawyer one day, but those dreams were cut short on Wednesday March 3rd, after she was hit by stray bullets shot by armed robbers during a daylight bank robbery in Lekki, Lagos. She was a fish hawker, a student, and was laid to rest at Ikoyi Cemetery on Monday. “She was quite brilliant; not troublesome, accommodating and friendly. Her death is very painful,” said her class teacher, Adebayo Moses.
“The last day she was in school, she came a bit late and I joked with her that she would wash toilets. She just smiled and I told her to rush to the class. She was a child to all of us and had a bright future.” said Matron of the school, Dorcas Ogundare.
When Ibikunle’s body was first deposited at a mortuary in Yaba, the facility initially requested a sum of N100,000 for to embalm the corpse and make burial arrangements. However, the management eventually revoked its decision on Monday and the body for burial without collecting any fee.
A pastor, had reportedly donated N100,000 to the deceased’s family when they made an appeal for funds via publications.
“It was published that we needed N100,000 to collect Sarah’s corpse, a pastor came and gave us the money. I also thank people who have been coming to sympathise with us. This kind of incident shall not be your portion,” said Sarah’s aunt, Omolafe.
May her gentle soul R.I.P
