According to a report on Daily Independent, The Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has advocated for financial autonomy for Nigerian Armed Forces, as he blamed under-funding, ill-equipping of the Army and other security agencies in the country which largely contributed to their poor outing, particularly in stemming the Boko-Haram tide in the north-eastern part of the country.
He made the statement on Thursday after performing the wreath laying to commemorate the 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, which took place at the Military Cenotaph, opposite 1-2-3 Quarters, Minna. He therefore, harped on the need to grant the military financial autonomy, which will translate to availability of funds for the procurement of arms and ammunitions.
“The military should be placed on first line charge in the disbursement of monies from the Federation Accounts hence, all these call for financial autonomy should also affect the Nigerian Army,” Aliyu said.
