The Nigerian military on Wednesday said it repelled a terrorist attack in Biu, a town in Borno State. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said this through its official twitter handle, @DefenceInfoNG. “Troops in pursuit of fleeing terrorists as mopping up operation is ongoing. Five (5) terrorists have so far been captured,” the military said. The DHQ said it also recovered two anti-aircraft guns from the terrorists.
Some members of the Boko Haram terrorist group reportedly attacked Biu, the largest town in Southern Borno State, in an effort to take over the city. They had largely been largely kept out of Biu through the combined efforts of the military and the youth of the town.
Some residents disclosed that the insurgents arrived early Wednesday at the southern part of the town, and moved to take over the army barracks. One resident said all they could hear were gunshots from the direction of the military barracks in the town.
The terrorist group has seized many towns in Borno and Adamawa States. The latest seizure was Baga, where numerous people, including soldiers, were killed.
